About PrinceHeron Communications
Thanks for wanting to know more about PrinceHeron Communications!
I’m Fiona Prince, and this is my company. I started it with my husband, Ron Heron, in 2005 after working for 15 years in the public sector and achieving my Masters of Arts in Applied Communication. Through my studies and work experience, my main focus became to teach people how and why misunderstandings happen and how to manage them when they do. My first contracts were mostly from the public-sector where I delivered in-person workshops on interpersonal communications, plain language skills, business writing, team-building, email management, presentation skills, and train-the-trainer (how to teach anyone anything). My clients work in every sector and range from front-line employees to senior executives.
I began delivering online courses for Royal Roads University in 2009 to help people improve their writing and communication skills. In 2017, to increase my own understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design, I completed a Graduate Diploma in Technology-enhanced Learning and Design. I am glad that I did. Since I did both my Masters and Graduate Diploma mostly online, my teaching style is driven by first-hand experience of what it is like to communicate and study for extended periods of time in an online environment, without the benefit of in-person classes and meetings.
When the pandemic was declared in March 2020, I had already been working and teaching online for over a decade. In addition to the courses I taught (and still teach) for Royal Roads University, I had started to host and teach custom-made courses for organizations who wanted to offer their employees business writing and communication skills in a secure elearning environment, without the stress of traditional grading systems. All of the courses I design include interactive virtual workshops supported with lessons, quizzes, discussion forums and optional assignments that are relevant for the participants’ work. To extend participants’ learning beyond the workshops and courses, I encourage them to contact me any time in the future at no-cost for quick advice on any business communication or writing challenges.
We are writing and reading more than ever. For much of our day we are ‘talking through our fingers’ and ‘listening with our eyes’ in email, text messages, social media posts, and online chats. As a communications coach and teacher, my goal is always to help people achieve their goals through smoother verbal, non-verbal, and written communications.
Please contact me to share your stories of communication challenges and to learn what we can do together to improve your workplace communications.
I would love to hear from you.

Why the Heron?
The obvious reason
My husband Ron Heron helps me run my business.
I’m the Prince. He’s the Heron.
I provide the services; Ron provides me with expert advice and moral support. He also helps me translate IT geek-speak into plain language. This gives our customers an advantage that’s hard to find — a bridge between the business people and the technical people in organizations.
The deeper reason
When I teach academic classes, I always tell my students to look beyond what they see, hear and read to find the deeper meaning. If the obvious reason above isn’t enough, I’ll try to go a little deeper for you 🙂
In the bird-world, some of the heron’s communication and working traits seem similar to ours. They will come together to build their nests in rookeries (communities), yet they go about their daily business of hunting and fishing as individuals rather than as teams. They compete for resources and the winners manage to get the best nesting sites in prime locations, shielded from the elements and natural predators.
This might work for herons and other birds, but it’s not so good for humans.
To succeed in life, we need to learn how to work with others and combine our knowledge and expertise to be better than we ever could be on our own. That’s why I get up in the morning — to help others succeed.
So get in touch with me, share your stories and together we can make this world a better place.
